I recently returned from a 5-week tour to China with 25 sillicon valley chinese people. Sponsored by MOE (ministry of education), we were invited to tour Liaoning, Beijing and other cities under the name of "Join the Celebration of October 1 with the motherland" -- Yu Zhu Guo Tong Qing".

100 overseas Chinese PhD were invited from 7 countries to watch the Oct 1 parade in Beijing:
- US silicon valley delegation of 25
- France bio-tech delegation
- UK agriculture delegation
- Japan delegation
- Australia delegation
- Canada delegation
- Germany delegation
2 DUT alumni were in the US group:
- Zhao Yilin (EE776) of Motorola, 4th from left on second row of the picture below, and
- Zhu Dongping (EE772) of Zaptron, 4th from left on front row.

Activities in Beijing:
- conference on innovation in human resources, with 100 returned scholars who serve now at key positions in china, such as Vice president of Tsuinghua university (40 years old). the attendees had the honor to meet with Vice Primer Minister Li NanQing at the People's Hall and had a group picture taken with him.
- tour to univ/inst/companies in beijing
- watched a grand show with President Jian Zhemin and other national figures at People's Hall.
- watched the grand "Oct 1" parade in Tiananmen square from the west vieving platform, 10Am - 12:30 PM. Some of us were shown on national TV. But i could not find myself in it.
- watched the sparkling fireworks in Tiananmen square at night, 8-10:30PM

A Visit to the Bochuan Library at DUT
Before participating in the "Oct 1" celebration events in Beijing, I took an excursion to Dalian and DUT. I especially visited the newest building on the DUT campus - The Bochuan Library.
