Dongping (Daniel) Zhu earned a BS and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Dalian University of Technology (DUT) in China in 1982 and 1985 respectively, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, in 1993. He was Instructor at DUT (82-87), Staff Scientist at InVision Technologies, Inc. (92-94), Foster City, CA,  Senior Scientist at Loral Globalstar (94-96), San Jose, CA, and R&D Director at Aptronix (96-97), Santa Clara, CA. In 1997 he founded Zaptron Systems, Inc., an intelligent control technology company in the Silicon Valley. He has since been its CEO and President. Zaptron specializes in data mining and intelligent controls, with applications in search engines, network management and controls. He has served as reviewer for IEEE International Conference on pattern recognition and computer vision, Kluwer-Nijhoff Publishing House of Holland, USDA National Research Grand Program, Associate Editor of Proceedings of the 1997 International Conference on Imaging Sciences, Systems and Technology, General Co-Chair of the First International Conference on Multisource-Multisensor Information Fusion (FUSION’98), and General Chair of FUSION’99. Since Nov. 1998, he has serveved as a Board member and the Secretary of the International Society of Information Fusion. He is currently also Associate Dean of Information Technology College at DUT and Adjunct Professor of controls at Northeast University of China. He has published extensively in IEEE, Academic Press of NY, SPIE, and numerous international conferences. His experience includes image fusion in machine vision, satellite mobile telecom systems, sensor fusion in GPS navigation, hyper-space data mining in informatics, chemometrics, pharmakocienetics, econometrics, and industrial process optimization, knowledge fusion in diagnostic expert systems, and neurofuzzy information fusion for financial forecasting and risk management.
